Nescafé's new KitKat Mocha is yummy - if you ignore the instructions on the packet

Learn from our mistakes.

There's a new frothy coffee in town right in time for winter, and it's got a chocolatey twist.

Nescafé has just launched their 'Mocha inspired by KitKat' in single serve sachets that claim to contain the "velvety froth of Nescafé with the irresistible rich chocolate and wafer flavour of KitKat".

We're a bunch of KitKat lovers here at rova HQ, and we also drink approximately 7,000 cups of coffee a day, so needless to say we were thrilled when these arrived for us to try.

Initially, though - we were underwhelmed. Allow me to explain: A team of us headed over to the kitchen armed with our sachets, and added hot (not boiling) water as instructed.

The result had the unmistakable aroma of KitKat, but none of the richness. Frankly, it tasted watery and not very chocolatey or coffee-y, but it did have a hint of disappointment.

HOWEVER! I had distributed the sachets far and wide across the team, and it wasn't long until Ricky returned with a mug of the KitKat-inspired mocha, sipping and smacking his lips with delight.

We all peered at him, puzzled, until he revealed the secret. He had made his drink with warm milk instead of water, and better still, he had used the office coffee machine to froth the mixture to perfection.

Now, this might seem obvious, but I feel it's my duty to be clear about how much better this drink is when you ignore the directions. It's nostalgic, sweet and gives you that warm fuzzy feeling in your tum.

The ingredients include milk powder, but don't let that fool you - you're gonna want to add the real thing (or your fave milk alternative).

As we discussed amongst ourselves, if you were camping or backpacking and hot water was your only option, the KitKat Mocha - as per the instructions - would suffice in the wild.

But under any other circumstances, warming up some milk totally transforms the experience. Even more so if you have frothing capabilities.

At $8.40 for a pack of eight, you're looking just over a dollar per drink, so it's worth a go - especially if you're often on the go. And just remember - rules are made to be broken.
