WATCH: 99 iconic David Attenborough moments for his 99th birthday

Six hours well spent.

On this day, 99 years ago, the wonderful Sir David Attenborough was born.

If the planet had a guardian angel, it would surely be him. He’s the unmistakable voice of nature. A real-life Lorax, speaking for the trees, the ocean, the animals, and all things life on Earth.

He’s got a voice that you could sit and listen to for hours, which is exactly what you could do right now if you’ve got a spare six of them.

Stay a while and watch 99 of his iconic documentary moments. It makes for great bedtime listening, but if you’re a diehard Sir David fan (and why wouldn’t you be?), you’ll watch regardless.

A passionate zoologist, having obtained his first degree in Natural Sciences, Sir David landed his first producing and presenting role on the BBC in 1954.

Aptly named ‘Zoo Quest’, his aim with the series was to travel across the globe in search of animals, viewing and meeting them as an observer in their own natural habitats.

With seven seasons spanning nine years, the show was a nationwide hit. Audiences praised the broadcaster for having an infectious personality. A sentiment we feel still rings true today.

This was only just the beginning of his legacy. 70 years later, having been the face and voice of hundreds of documentaries, he has become a household name and one of nature’s most respected advocates.

From his ‘Life’ series, to ‘Blue Planet’, and ‘Planet Earth’ (to name a few), Sir David has been a major inspiration to viewers and scientists worldwide.

Nobody has showcased and explained the world in the way that he has, and it’s hard to imagine anyone will ever come close to his legacy.

Even now, as he nears 100, Sir David has remained an active environmental champion and filmmaker. Today, he released the documentary ‘Ocean’, which explores the vital role of the ocean and the importance of its recovery.

We wish a happy 99th birthday to this true force of nature.
